Koh Mak Election for Mayor will take place on 14th September  There are only two candidates. Khun Jakrapad who is the present Mayor is standing again and Khun Ueng is contesting.
	New Concrete Roads
		The concreting of the road to Ao Nid Pier is now completed.
	This new road from the Koh Mak Villa and Goodtime resort is now completed. Vehicle access to the Goodtime restaurant and Koh Mak Villa is now much easier.
		The new road from Makathanee resort & Pier towards Goodtime resort is now completed. It doesn't reach quite as far as Goodtime resort yet but what was the worst part of the road is now concreted.

New Rescue & Emergency Center planned.

Koh Mak Islanders are planning to open a center where all emergencies can be reported. The Center will be manned by local volunteers. The idea being that any emergency situation either at sea or on the Island can be assisted by the relevant authority by just having one point of contact. In emergencies the Center can be in immediate contact with the police, Navy, Medical Services or Sea rescue.

New Airstrip being built!

The developers of the new super-luxury resort of Soneva Kiri due to open December 2008 on nearby Koh Kood have built an airstrip on the Island of Koh Mai Si which is just 2 kilometers off Koh Kood.

The airstrip will be used to transport guests and owners of the 1.2 million pound properties to Soneva Kiri from Bangkok suvarnabhumi airport by an 8 seater Cessna plane owned by the resort.

Perhaps in future lies the possibility of a quick route to Koh Mak although we doubt it will be cheap, presently a return trip by the Cessna from Bangkok to Koh Kood is quoted at 263 Euros.
